012: Being Right Can Kill You

Mind BlastWhy is it that we sometimes have a hard time admitting that we are wrong or that we made a mistake?  This disrupts our relationships, biases scientific studies, impacts our work, and in a crisis can kill us!

For a deeper look into cognitive dissonance and how this phenomenon impacts our lives, I strongly recommend starting with the well researched book, Mistakes Were Made (But Not by Me), by Carol Tavris & Elliot Aronson.

Hello Matt, Enjoyed the lesson today I will focus on being humble tomorrow at work because when I challenge myself it seems like I will be tested by some higher power, person. or situation it never fails. Keep up the great work.

      Thanks, Bill,
There is a balance between confidence and humility. I think we get ourselves into problems when stop entertaining the idea that we might be wrong about something. Always be confident, always believe in yourself, just keep your mind open to other ideas and possibilities!
