014: 1,440 Minutes, Part 1

Time is our true wealth.  It is our most precious commodity and the only thing that we truly own, yet we often live as if our time is unlimited.  One of our listeners asked me to talk about time management.  There are a thousand tips and techniques out there and a million self styled experts on the subject.  That’s not me.  However, I’ve learned what works for me over the years and in this three part series I’ll share some of my thoughts on time and time management.  As I said in the audio, take what works and make it yours, and throw away all the rest! 011: Long Term Travel with Chris Reynolds

Today we are joined by my friend Chris Reynolds from The One Effect to talk about long term and extended travel.  Even as a child, I was passionate about traveling and seeing the world, which for most of us means a week or two at a time during our annual vacations.  However, there is a growing community of expats who have chosen to travel abroad for months or years at a time.  Chris has been on the road since 2011, and if travel is in your dreams then you will find this conversation both educational and inspirational. For our listeners with families, I will be following up in a couple of weeks with a conversation with another friend who has been traveling for two years now with his family of high school kids.  If you have the travel bug there is no reason to wait just because you have school aged children.  It can be done.  You just need to live dangerously!  As Chris said, luck favors those who take action! Books Mentioned: The Four Hour Work Week, by Tim Ferris.  Considered by many to be the bible of life style design and location independent living. Vagabonding: An Uncommon Guide to the Art of Long-Term Travel, by Rolf Potts.  The single best resource for those considering long term travel! Think and Grow Rich, by Napoleon Hill.  A classic book on the power of the mind in creating the life of your dreams. Websites: The One Effect, Chris’ homepage Open English, the online English school that helped fund many of Chris’ adventures.  Teaching English is a great way to pay for travel or just make extra money, and many schools let you teach from the comfort of your own home. Let’s Learn Spanish, one of many online resources for learning Spanish. Download this episode (right click and...
