Races

Looking for more Adventure? Try Obstacle Racing!

hayNot all of us have the flexibility to head out on crazy, month long adventures.  Fortunately, there is a way to challenge ourselves and add some craziness to our lives without leaving the local area.  I’m talking about adventure and obstacle racing!  These races come in all shapes and sizes, from short, mud runs, to multi-day, wilderness adventure races.  To spice up your life, we are jumping head first into the world of race organizing!

What do these races look like?

I am a big believer in the idea of functional fitness.  That is, training our bodies to perform at peak levels doing actions and motions that have real world application.  IMG_3404Bench pressing 400 pounds is certainly impressive but it doesn’t really translate into real life in the same way as sprinting, pull ups, or squats.  For instance, my fitness program is designed to prepare me for adventures and emergencies – things like running away from that bear that just invaded my campsite, climbing out of canyons, or lifting my motorcycle when it goes to sleep in the mud.  With that in mind, our races focus heavily on cardiovascular fitness (running, sprinting, and swimming), body weight exercises (jumping, crawling, and calisthenics), and moving heavy things (sandbags, tires, and the like).  Most importantly, our races are designed to test your willpower and your mental endurance.

We are excited to start by bringing you challenging and intense single day races.  In the future, expect to see more wilderness oriented, multi-day events.

Giving Back

IMG_3300A key element of all of our events is that they give back and support the local community.  At least 10% of the proceeds will go directly to local charities supporting military and veterans groups, children’s programs, or first responders.

What is on the schedule now?

  • First Responders Challenge (May 206):  This race is a celebration of our first responders–our police, fire fighters, and emergency medical personnel–and our obstacles are designed to imitate the challenges they see in their jobs.  What does that mean exactly?  Think about sprints, getting over obstacles, crawling, and carrying heavy things!  In addition to the obstacle run, we are inviting local first responder units to enter teams to compete for cash donations to their charity of choice.  The general public is also invited to compete individually or in teams.

  • 3rd Annual Tucson Veterans Day Cup (November 2016):  This race is presented as part of the City of Tucson’s Hats Off to Heroes Veterans Day celebration.  Military and veteran teams from around the State are invited to participate and compete for the Veterans Day Cup.  Starting in 2015, the race was opened to the general public.  This race includes both an individual obstacle run and several team challenges.
