Is This Just a Military Event?
Absolutely not! This race is open to everyone, however only military and veteran teams are eligible to compete for the Tucson Veterans Day Cup. Individual racers only compete in the 5k obstacle race, while teams will also complete the team challenge events after the run.
- Competition for the Tucson Cup is open to all active duty, guard and reserve, or veteran personnel.
- Individuals and non-military, non-veteran teams are welcome and encouraged to race, but are not eligible for winning the Cup.
Are There Prizes?
Yes, there certainly are! Eligible military and veteran teams are competing for the Tucson Veterans Day Cup, and, as in previous years, our sponsors will make a cash donation in the name of the top three teams, to the military or veteran charity of the winning teams’ choice. The projected donation amounts for this year are:
- $1000 for 1st Place
- $500 for 2nd Place
- $250 for 3rd Place
Eligible charities include any military or veteran related charity or approved 501-C organization. We encourage teams to donate the money to organizations that directly support their mission or unit. For example, many military units have a non-profit organization that provides support and educational funds for the children and families of unit members who died during the course of service. If you have any questions please contact us today.
This year we will also offer prizes for the top individual runners and the top civilian teams. Once we have determined the categories and prizes, we will post them on this page.
How Do I Register?
Registration is FREE! Registration will be available soon via Active.com. Check back for the link after January 1, 2016.
When is the Race?
The race is on November 12, 2016, at Reid Park in Tucson, AZ.
Additional details will be posted as we get closer!
Where is the Race?
The race is held at Reid Park in Tucson, Arizona. Registration and the start of the race will take place at the northwest corner of the park near Pavilion 19.
What is the Race Course?
Here is the 2015 map to give you an idea of what to expect.
Is This Just Another 5K Run?
Not exactly. The Cup Competition has two parts. First is the 5K Obstacle Run, and second is the Team Competition. The stars on the map above represent “athletic challenges”. Individual participants and non-military/veteran teams will only complete the 5K Obstacle Run. Military and Veteran teams competing for the Tucson Veterans Day Cup will also complete several team challenges after the obstacle run.
What are the “Athletic Challenges”?
Well, if I tell you what all of the challenges are then it will take all of the fun out of the race! This year’s challenges are all pretty simple. Think about jumping, crawling, and calisthenics. That’s all I can tell you for now, so I hope that helps! Don’t worry about the challenges, just sign up and have some fun!
How is the Winner Determined for the Tucson Veterans Day Cup?
Remember only Military/Veteran teams are competing for the Cup. Standings are determined entirely by time. Each team will be awarded a cumulative time based on the 5K obstacle run and the team challenges. The team with the lowest time wins. It’s that easy. The obstacle run time for each team will be the average time of all team members competing in the run (at least three people from each five person team must participate in the run). Winners for the civilian team competition will be determined in the same manner.
I Don’t Want to Compete but I Want to Help. What Should I Do?
Thank you! We need volunteers to make this event a success, so if you want to show your appreciation for our military forces but don’t want to compete in this event then contact me at race@cro59.com or Click Here to volunteer. Volunteers should plan to show at Reid Park by 7:00 am.
